Edmonton Parents Go Gambling While Toddler Freezes Outside Casino

Some stories stir the pot more than others when they are related to controversial topics that tend to polarize public opinion. One of those is the topic of leaving children unattended in parked vehicles. A couple hailing from Edmonton left their toddler in their parked car while they spent more than an hour gambling at Pure Casino Edmonton.

Security at the casino venue eventually located the kid in the car, experiencing the low temperature of an Albertan evening around this time of the year. When it comes to gambling regulations, casino venues do not allow children to roam around their gaming floors. Problem gambling concerns does not make the area appropriate for a young and easily-impressionable mind. An Edmonton couple resorted to leaving their toddler in their parked vehicle with the windows partially rolled down.

Parents arrested and Charged

Some parents lack the support of relatives or close friends and they resort to their kid accompanying them everywhere, even to the casino complex. However, leaving a kid unattended in a parked vehicle is frowned upon. Two residents of Edmonton dedicated Monday evening to gambling activities on the pursuit of a grand windfall that would eventually serve as a financial cushion for their future endeavors.

In the meantime, however, their 18-month-old kid was waiting for them outside the casino location. The windows of the parked vehicle were left open three-quarters of the way, guaranteeing fresh air circulation throughout the car. What should be taken into account is that the air coming from outside was appropriate for this time of the year and failed to cross the 10 degree Celsius mark.

Police officers reported that by the time it was located, the child was in medical distress after being left in the cold for more than an hour. Casino security staff took the toddler inside the casino venue while police officers made their way there in order to keep it warm. The discovery took place around 7:20 p.m. followed closely by the arrival of police officers.

Pure Casino Edmonton Security Discovered Kid

What happened next was an arrest of the parents that were in the midst of gambling with two charges – one for a child in need of intervention and another one for the abandonment of a child in a parked vehicle. For the time being, the child and its parents have not been reunited.

When leaving a kid unattended in a parked vehicle, a common concern is that the vehicle’s temperature could quickly reach dangerous degrees without the proper oxygen circulation. When it comes to Edmonton, concerningly low temperatures could cause severe harm, especially to a toddler. It could be recalled that the beginning of this year saw another situation of a child abandoned in a vehicle parked in front of a casino in Alberta.

This time it was a Calgary father who left his 7-year-old son in front of Pure Casino Calgary, so he could gamble. The kid ended up spending around two hours in the vehicle while the temperature outside dropped to -24 degrees Celsius. According to Canada’s Criminal Code, Section 218, an individual who “unlawfully abandons or exposes a child” faces five years of jail time.
