Caesars Windsor Prepares for Reopening this Summer

Caesars Windsor is among the gaming hotspots of Ontario but at the moment the gaming resort is closed indefinitely. For the time being, a reopening date is hard to pinpoint given the dynamically changing situation around the globe and in Ontario. Unifor Local 444, Dave Cassidy recently stated that the labor union is doing its best to protect the employees affected by this lockdown.

Gaming operation across brick-and-mortar casino venues in Ontario has been shut down ever since mid-March when provincial health officials mandated that social distancing be implemented as a practice. Enclosed spaces such as casino venues with their clusters of slot machines, as well as the gatherings around the table games would see some rearrangement in the future.

Casino Relaunch

In their current layout and arrangement, they could not see social distancing implemented in the most efficient manner. This is the reason why Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation issued an official statement closing all land-based casino locations across the province. Over the past more than six weeks, those venues have been closed for business, Caesars Windsor being one of them. The casino resort is known as a preferred destination for many tourists.

It is located close to the border and it also serves as a getaway for Canadians looking for entertainment south. However, it could also stop them from making their way south of the border with its gaming offerings, thus preventing cash from fueling New York State casinos. Its role in Ontario’s gaming landscape is undoubtedly important, as locals can confirm. Unifor Local 444 protects about 2,300 of its casino staff members.

Mr. Cassidy wants to guarantee each and every one of them secure employment and financial support down the road. At this point of the lockdown, it is hard to say when a reopening could take place for the casino resort. The labor union confirmed that the reopening of the casino venue would be harder than the quick shutdown that took place mid-March.

Safety Measures

The measures that should be implemented for player protection are currently being discussed, as the process would need more technical time. Some of those new features to the casino floor would include special dividers between the individuals engaging in gaming activities. Such a measure is expected to protect their health over the summer months.

Along with that, the gaming chips used would also have to be frequently changed or disinfected. The casino floor itself might also see a rearrangement eyeing social distancing and the mandatory six feet between individuals. Ahead of the lockdown, many casinos switched off some of their slot machines preventing individuals from staying too close to each other while gaming.

The hotel tower would come with its unique challenges if it reopens for guests in the summer months. Mr. Cassidy worries that the casino might be among the last ones to relaunch its regular operation on a provincial scale. The preparation work would pave the way and give casino patrons the security that their gaming activities are safe.
