The Sacramento Kings have been on a downward spiral for decades, as they entered the playoffs in 2023 for the first time after 16 years, the longest playoff drought in NBA history. Itā€™s quite a feat, albeit bad, but they are still remembered for their glory days, roughly from 1998 to 2005, when they were spearheaded by the might of Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Jason Williams, Peja Stojaković, and Doug Christie.

Hopefully, their awakening in 2023 signals a change for the oldest team in the NBA, which rewrote its identity several times by 1985 when it became the Sacramento Kings we know today.

The following season might prove pivotal, so it may be the right time to place some wagers on them. The good thing is that you can do that on all major Canadian sportsbooks, as they cover the NBA and feature a massive range of betting markets for the Kingsā€™ games.

Sacramento Kings Betting Odds ā€” Types of Bets

If you donā€™t have much experience with basketball and NBA betting, youā€™ll be glad to know that there are plenty of exciting and rewarding wagers you can place. Letā€™s look at some of the more popular options.

Moneyline Bets

Moneyline allows you to predict straight-up whoā€™ll win an NBA game. Letā€™s say you place a moneyline bet on a Kingsā€™ game against the Golden State. The odds on them are -110 (1.91), which means they are the favourites, while the odds on the Warriors are +180 (2.8), making them the underdogs.

If you bet $100 on the Kings and they win the game, youā€™ll receive a total of $190.91.

Point Spreads

This type of bet is all about the margin of victory instead of a win or a loss. In the NBA, the point spread denotes the number of points that the favourite needs to surpass for your bet on that team to be successful.

For instance, in the same Sacramento vs Golden State game, the spread might be 5.5. Specifically, it will be -5.5 for the Kings, meaning they need to take the match by at least 6 points for you to win the wager. On the other hand, the Golden State will have a spread of +5.5, so if you bet on them, they can lose by as many as 5 points, and youā€™ll still receive your payout.

Totals (Over/Under)

Totals, or over/under bets, allow you to wager on the combined score of a game going over or under a specific number.

If that number is, letā€™s say, 228.5, and you decide to bet on ā€œunderā€, the combined score will have to be 228 or less for you to win. On the other hand, if you bet on ā€œoverā€, it will need to be at least 229.

If a game goes overtime, the totals are still valid, at least in most cases. Also, bear in mind that the Sacramento reached the top of the table for the highest average number of points per game in the 2022/23 season, so you should consider going for higher totals if they continue down the same path.

Futures

If you want to bet on the Sacramento Kings to win the Pacific Division, Western Conference, or even the whole NBA, youā€™ll use a corresponding futures wager. These bets deal with events further ahead in the future, hence the name.

Futures also include predicting the next MVP, Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and more. The Kingsā€™ own Mike Brown won the Coach of the Year Award for the 2022/23 season.

Prop Bets

Proposition bets or props revolve around player and team performance predictions. For instance, you could bet on De’Aaron Fox to score more than 30 points in a game or on Sabonis to get more than 13 rebounds.

These are just a few examples, but there are plenty of options available, as NBA games are filled with stats that are ideal for translating into a diverse range of props.

Live Betting

Live or in-play betting is a form of sports betting where you place wagers while the game is still in progress. It always offers unique opportunities and betting markets with potentially highly lucrative odds.

For instance, the Sacramento Kings might be losing their rhythm while still in the lead, which is a chance for you to place a smart bet on the opposing team while the odds are still favourable. All in all, itā€™s all about placing some well-timed wagers based on your knowledge of the Kings, their play, and the NBA in general.

Parlay Bets

Parlay bets are single wagers combined into one betting slip. They are beneficial as the odds are not combined but multiplied, leading to significantly higher profits if you predict each selection correctly.

In most cases, you wonā€™t be able to put several selections concerning the same game in a parlay, but you can always cover other teams and even other sports. If you limit yourself to the NBA, thereā€™s more than enough diversity to make a parlay with three or four predictions you strongly believe in.

Who Has the Best Odds on the Sacramento Kings?

The answer to this question is almost always different for each Kings game or betting market. Thatā€™s because thereā€™s no single sportsbook that awards the best odds on every occasion. All of them determine odds based on a wide range of factors, leading to constant discrepancies.

You need to check several popular sportsbooks for each bet you aim to place. To make this process easier, you can use our odds comparison page to find the bookies with the best offer for the market youā€™re interested in.

Youā€™ll have to create profiles at each sportsbook you end up using, but this is actually a good thing, as youā€™ll get the chance to claim various bonuses and take advantage of new promotions all the time. Speaking of bonuses, pay attention to boosted odds promos ā€” if they apply to the NBA, you could use them to get even better odds.

Sacramento Kings History

As briefly mentioned earlier, the Sacramento Kings are the oldest team in the NBA, predating the league itself. They were founded in 1923, so it was fitting that 2022/23 was one of their best seasons in a long time.

They started as the Rochester Seagrams but changed their name several times by 1945 when they joined the NBL, NBAā€™s forerunner, as the Rochester Royals. They even won the league in its inaugural 1945/46 season. Under that name, they joined the NBA in 1948 and even took the trophy in 1951, which remains the teamā€™s only NBA Champion title.

Since Rochester was a small market in those years, they transferred to Cincinnati in 1957, changing the name to reflect their new home. In 1972, they moved again, becoming the Kansas City-Omaha Kings for a brief period because they played in both cities. The Omaha part was removed only three years later, and we finally got the Sacramento Kings we know today in 1985 when the franchise moved to California.

Their first season under the new name (1985/86) wasnā€™t too disappointing. They finished fifth in the Pacific Division, seventh in the Western Conference, and recorded 37 wins and 47 losses. They even entered the playoffs but lost 3-0 to the Houston Rockets.

The next several years were quite the opposite, as they went into a decade-long playoff drought interrupted only once, in 1996. Things started changing for the better in 1998 after a draft where they got Jason “White Chocolate” Williams as the seventh overall pick. In the off-season, they got Chris Webber, the All-Star forward from the Washington Wizards, and soon after, the free agent, Vlade Divac. His compatriot, Peja Stojaković, finally got the chance to play for the Kings that year despite having been signed in 1996, but he got to truly show his worth to the team in 2000.

Things then started improving, leading up to a monumental 2000/01 season, fondly remembered by every Kings fan. The team got Doug Christie, who managed to improve the poor defence, while Stojaković played as the starting small forward. This was great for the Kings, as he and Chris Webber complemented each other superbly.

Their record that season was 55-27, the best in 40 years. Additionally, they won their first playoff series in 20 years, beating the Phoenix Suns 3-1, though losing to the Lakers, the eventual NBA champions, in the second round. However, the season for the Kings culminated in the famous Sports Illustrated cover story that dubbed their performance the Greatest Show on Court.

Their successful streak continued for a few seasons, with 2001/02 being undoubtedly the best. They won the first and recond round and held their own against the Lakers in the conference finals before finally losing 4-3. The Lakers moved on to win the NBA that year.

Unfortunately, the 2004/05 season started their decline, eventually resulting in the longest playoff drought in the history of the NBA. However, 2022/23 proved to be an excellent season for them, largely owing to their new head coach, Mike Brown. They finished with a positive record and a .585 winning percentage (their best since 2005), but, most importantly, they finally reached the playoffs.

Interestingly, the highlight of the whole season must be their February 24 game against the Clippers. The double-overtime matchup was a win for the Kings, but it was also the second-highest scoring in NBA history, as the final result was 176-175.
