The Oklahoma City Thunder are going through a successful rebuilding phase. OKC is starting from scratch after parting ways with their superstars and shutting down an experiment that attempted to create a super team out of Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony a few years back.

The strategy for the team’s GM, Sam Presti, was to collect as many picks through trades and draft lotteries and grow a squad of competent youngsters that would thrive in the NBA once they get enough experience. With a roster consisting of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey, Aleksej Pokusevski, Lu Dort, and other young talents, the Thunder are looking at what seems like a very bright future.

The Thunder are going to produce must-see basketball for years to come, but you can always up the excitement by placing a few bets on their games. Canadians can access loads of online sportsbooks that offer NBA betting, and we’re here to show you which ones provide the best Oklahoma City Thunder betting odds and the types of bets they feature.

Oklahoma City Thunder Betting Odds — Types of Bets

If you’re new to basketball betting, you may be surprised by the number of ways you can bet on the Oklahoma City Thunder and other NBA teams. Below are descriptions of some of the more popular NBA markets, along with a few examples.

Moneyline

The moneyline is about who’s going to win the game straight-up. Point differential, correct score, or the total number of points don’t matter. The moneyline usually includes overtime as well, although you can find sportsbooks that have the “Draw No Bet” and “Will There Be Overtime?” markets.

Point Spread

Point spread adds a point differential to a prediction. If Oklahoma City Thunder is favoured to win, they will have a negative spread to cover. Conversely, if they are considered underdogs, the spread will be positive.

For example, if the spread is -5.5 and you bet on the Thunder, they’ll need to win the game by six or more points. If the spread is +3.5, the team can either win outright or lose by three or fewer points.

Totals (Over/Under)

The over/under market challenges you to predict the number of points both teams will score in a game. If the line is set at 225.5, for example, an under bet will have you hope the teams score 225 or lower, while an over bet means you’re looking for a high-scoring contest with 226 or more points.

It doesn’t matter which team wins or what the winning margin is. Totals bets are usually valid even if the game goes to overtime.

Futures

The Oklahoma City Thunder have a bright future, but they aren’t expected to win an NBA title just yet. However, if you believe they will be ahead of schedule and win the championship next year, you can bet on it in the outright winner market. The odds for the Thunder winning are pretty long right now, usually falling between +6000 and +7000 (61.00 and 71.00).

Other futures bets include total wins over/under, team to make the playoffs, conference and division champions, and various individual player awards. For instance, you can bet on Chet Holmgren to win Rookie of the Year or for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to win the MVP.

Props

Everything that’s not a main (moneyline, spread, totals) or a futures bet can fall under a prop. These are a long set of miscellaneous bets that can relate to various game occurrences and individual team and player performances. Props can consist of markets like alternative spreads, double results (half-time/full-time), both teams scoring X points, first-half winner, winning margin, race to X points, and more.

Player props are especially popular among Canadian bettors. Here, you can bet over/under on various statistical categories of Thunder players, like SGA having over 24.5 points, Gidey recording under 8.5 assists, Holmgren grabbing over 7.5 rebounds, and more.

Live Betting

Betting while an OKC Thunder game is in progress presents a whole new set of opportunities. With live betting, you can make short-term predictions, like which team is going to win the next quarter or what the method of the next score will be (2pt field goal, 3pt field goal, or a free throw).

Of course, live betting still features all the pregame markets, like the moneyline and point spread. One difference is they now have rapidly changing odds and lines based on the current score and other in-game factors.

Parlays

You can combine your OKC Thunder bet with bets from other games and create a parlay. For example, you can bet on Thunder to beat the Los Angeles Lakers, the Denver Nuggets to cover the -5.5 spread against the Los Angeles Clippers, and for Jimmy Butler to score over 20.5 points against the Orlando Magic.

Some sportsbooks feature same-game parlays, allowing you to combine bets from a single OKC game. Thus, it is possible to create a parlay like OKC moneyline win, SGA to record under 5.5 assists, and a total score to be under 229.5 points.

Of course, parlays are way more difficult to hit than single bets, but the higher profit potential is sometimes worth the risk.

Who Has the Best Odds on the Oklahoma City Thunder?

Canadian betting sites continually top each other with better bonuses, deepen their market selection, and update their websites and apps with new features. In the end, the most significant factor to every bettor who’s serious about making a long-term profit should be the sportsbook’s odds.

Oklahoma City Thunder betting odds can differ between sportsbooks due to a number of reasons. Logically, the sportsbook with the best OKC Thunder odds will give you the potential to squeeze out the maximum profit from your bets. However, one sportsbook won’t always have the best odds for a specific game or market, which is why you must do some odds shopping every time you’re about to make a bet.

Our odds comparison page should make things easier. Instead of going from one betting site to the next to check the odds, you can now see all the top Canadian sportsbooks and their NBA odds compiled in one place.

Oklahoma City Thunder History

The Oklahoma City Thunder is a successor of the Seattle SuperSonics, an NBA expansion team that was added to the league in 1967. For the first decade, the Sonics were a mid-tier NBA franchise, often missing the playoffs or dropping out in early postseason rounds.

The tide began to turn in the 1977/78 season when the team employed Lenny Wilkens as the head coach for the second time. Wilkens revived the struggling 5–17 Sonics, and the team finished the season with the franchise-best 47 wins. Seattle went on to play in the Finals that year but lost to the Washington Bullets in seven games.

Next year, the Sonics improved even more and finished first in the Western Conference with 52 wins, backed by generational talents in Jack Sikma, Gus Williams, and Dennis Johnson. In the playoffs, the Sonics stormed past the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns before getting their revenge on the Washington Bullets and beating them in five games to win their maiden NBA title.

The Sonics remained competitive under coach Wilkens until the mid-1980s when Bernie Bickerstaff took over with a new squad led by Dale Ellis. The team was very good but couldn’t make it past the conference finals. In 1992, George Karl was brought in as the new head coach, and the Sonics had brand new star power in Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton.

The SuperSonics made the playoffs for eight consecutive years during the 1990s but just couldn’t get across the finish line. Their biggest disappointment came in 1994 when the team which recorded 63 wins in the regular season lost in the first round of the playoffs to the 8-seeded Denver Nuggets. A year later, the team suffered another first-round loss to the Lakers. In 1996, the Sonics finally reached the Finals, but Michaell Jordan and his revamped Chicago Bulls were just too much for them to handle.

The Seattle SuperSonics were a mid-level team throughout the 2000s without any serious title runs. In 2006, the Sonics were sold to a group of Oklahoma City investors. Two years later, the team moved to Oklahoma City and was renamed Oklahoma City Thunder.

Young Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook made a formidable duo for the newly structured Thunder and quickly became a dominant force in the West. They made their first and so far only trip to the NBA Finals in 2012 but fell to the more experienced LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

The team remained competitive for a few more years, but that quickly changed with the departure of Kevin Durant in 2016. Westbrook stayed for a couple of more seasons and attempted to form a superteam with Paul George and Carmelo Anthony, but the trio performed below expectations.

Over the past several years, the OKC Thunder has been harbouring plenty of young talents. Thanks to a lot of trades, the team’s general manager Sam Presti acquired loads of draft picks, which are now beginning to mature and will soon pose a threat to the rest of the league. Chet Holmgren is the Thunder’s latest young hope, as he was picked second in the 2022 NBA draft. However, Chet was unable to play his first year due to a foot injury.
