Cleveland Cavaliers fans may be yearning for the days of LeBron, as the team hasn’t really had a sniff at the championship ever since “King James” left for L.A. Still, the future looks promising in Cleveland. The Cavs are fostering young talent in Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, and Evan Mobley and have found a new leader in Donovan Mitchell.

Cavs games are primetime NBA entertainment, but they’re also a great opportunity to earn a profit. If you have a sweet tooth for basketball betting, read on to find sportsbooks with the best Cleveland Cavaliers betting odds and learn about all the different types of wagers you can place on the team.

Cleveland Cavaliers Betting Odds — Types of Bets

The Cleveland Cavaliers take part in 82 games during the regular season, and with how good the team’s roster looks right now, it’s almost a guarantee that they’ll be in the playoffs for years to come. For all these games, online sportsbooks offer loads of betting markets, together with futures, where you bet on the Cavs’ season-long performance.

Moneyline

Will the Cleveland Cavaliers win or lose their next game? If you think you know the answer to this question, you should look into the moneyline market. The correct score, the winning margin, and whether the game will go into overtime don’t matter — who wins is all that counts.

The moneyline odds on the Cleveland Cavaliers will shift depending on whether they’re considered favourites or underdogs for that particular game. If the Cavs are expected to triumph, you’ll see negative odds (e.g. -150 (1.67), indicating you need to wager $150 to earn $100). In the opposite situation, they’ll be assigned positive odds (e.g. +200 (3.00), meaning a $100 wager will win you $200).

Point Spread

The point spread evens out the odds and brings the winning margin into play. Namely, the underdog is always given handicap points, meaning that a bet on that team would pay out if it won outright or lost within the given margin. On the other hand, the favourite is stripped a number of points, and a successful bet on it implies it must win the game by a larger margin.

If the Cavs had -5.5 against the Pacers, they would have to triumph by at least six points to cover the point spread. If they were the underdogs with, for example, a point spread of +3.5, they would need to either win the game or lose by fewer than four points.

Totals (Over/Under)

If you have a hunch on how many total points both teams will score at the next Cavs game, you should check the totals market. Sportsbooks usually put the totals line at the half-point mark, and you just need to guess whether the squads will combine to score more or less than that number.

For instance, if the totals line were at 225.5, the score of 114-112 would mean the “over” bet wins. If there was just one point fewer scored, the “under” bet would become the winning one. Aside from totals for the whole game, you can find betting markets for individual team totals and those for each half and quarter.

Futures

The Cleveland Cavs are not exactly among the favourites for an NBA title (at least not right now), but you can still wager on them to make an upset and win the championship. You’ll find such a bet in the futures market, alongside other season-long options like MVP winner, team to make the playoffs, team regular season wins over/under, conference winners, and more.

Prop Bets

A set of bets that relate to individual segments and statistical elements of the match are called proposition bets or props. Concerning the NBA, they are divided into game, team, and player props.

A game prop can refer to guessing if the game will go into overtime or if both squads will score 120 points. Team props relate to individual teams, such as picking which side will have the highest-scoring quarter or predicting if the Cavs will have an even or odd number of total points. With player props, you’ll bet on the stat totals of different players, like Donovan Mitchell scoring over or under 27.5 points in a game, for example.

Live Betting

The betting markets don’t close after the tip-off. As a matter of fact, you can stake money during every second of the game while it’s in play or during the time-outs. The live markets include all the ones we discussed above (barring the futures, which get temporarily closed), in addition to a few specific ones, like whether the Cavaliers will win the next quarter or get to an X amount of points first.

The secret to successful live betting is speed. In sports such as basketball, momentum can change rather quickly, and so can the odds.

Parlays

If you want to go for a higher payout, you should consider parlaying two or more games. For instance, you can bet on the Cavs to win their match, the Lakers to cover the spread, and for the Raptors vs Heat fixture to feature more than 218.5 points. However, all selections must go through for you to get the payout.

Parlaying bets from the same game is now also an option at many Canadian betting sites. For instance, you can combine the Cavs’ moneyline and a prop, such as Jarrett Allen having over 9.5 rebounds.

Who Has the Best Odds on the Cleveland Cavaliers?

You won’t find a sportsbook that always offers the best odds on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Your preferred betting site may offer the best moneyline odds on the Cavs one day but have under-average pricing the next.

It’s recommended that you invest some time into odds shopping. We’ve made this process easier for you by creating the NBA odds comparison page. This page shows current NBA odds on a number of different Canadian sportsbooks, making it easy to spot the best ones for a particular game.

Also, be on the watch for odds boosts. Sportsbooks sometimes enhance the odds on certain games and markets, which is always a nice opportunity to increase your potential profits.

Cleveland Cavaliers History

The Cleveland Cavaliers joined the NBA in 1970. The team’s first few seasons were expectedly unsuccessful, but the Cavs kept steadily increasing their regular season win totals year after year before finally reaching a winning record of 49-33 in the 1975/76 season, led by Coach of the Year Bill Fitch. The franchise’s first trip to the NBA playoffs ended in a conference finals loss to the Boston Celtics (2-4).

In the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s, the Cavs were a mediocre NBA team, occasionally reaching the postseason but losing in the first round every time. Powered by the likes of Mark Price, Ron Harper, Larry Nance, and Brad Daugherty, the Cavs went on to win 57 regular season games in 1988/89 but were knocked out in the first round again, this time by the young Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

The Bulls would remain the team’s biggest hurdle throughout the 1990s, as the Cavs were eliminated by them in each of the 1992, 1993, and 1994 playoffs. The squad kept sinking in the late 1990s and early 2000s before finally striking gold and getting the first pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. The Cavs picked LeBron James, justifiably the most hyped draft prospect of all time.

King James would completely turn the franchise around. While he didn’t have much help in his first stint with the Cavs, he would eventually lead them to the NBA Finals in 2007, where they fell short against the more experienced San Antonio Spurs. After no titles and a few underwhelming seasons, James decided to leave for Miami in 2010 but returned to Cleveland in 2014.

In the meantime, Cleveland had a few other first picks in the draft, including Kyrie Irving. What followed was four trips to the NBA Finals between 2015 and 2018, including a legendary comeback in 2016, when the Cavs trailed 1-3 but eventually downed the mighty Golden State Warriors in seven games.

James left again in 2018, but the Cavs have managed to become a solid team without him. They reached the 2023 playoffs but lost to the Knicks in the first round. Still, time works in favour of the young and talented Cleveland roster.
