Woodbine Entertainment Lifts Curtain on First-Ever US$1M Mohawk Million

Woodbine Entertainment is on a constant pursuit of offering more to its local enthusiasts and elevating their experience. Next year is scheduled to bring the first edition of the Mohawk Million event coming with US$1,000,000 in purse cash. This makes it the most generous harness race within the borders of Canada that would take place in the fall of 2020.

Enthusiasts interested in heated harness racing live action would have to wait exactly a year until they have the chance to experience a truly new sensation. Woodbine Mohawk Park is projected to host the inaugural edition of the racing event featuring the heftiest purse on a national level. In order to make the experience as special as possible, two-year-old horses are about to enter it and showcase their skills in real-life conditions. The trotters will have an entire year to prepare well.

Live Race Comes Fall 2020

For the time being, the exact date of this special event has not been pinpointed but it is known that it would take place towards either the end of September or the beginning of October 2020. All participants will have the opportunity to purchase their racing spot at the live event thanks to an entry fee reaching US$110,000.

Such an amount would make it possible for the purse money to swell to the US$1-million officially announced by the gaming giant. All enthusiasts ready to make their way into the live race would have to do so within the months ahead of February 17, 2020. One of the ten slots is reserved for the horse that manages to claim the first position at the 2020 William Wellwood Memorial.

That winner is going to enter the fall race free of charge. Jim Lawson, CEO of Woodbine Entertainment, said that people in the local field, as well as horse enthusiasts have eagerly anticipated the inaugural race across the country. Woodbine Mohawk Park is scheduled to dedicate 2020 to a myriad of live races, reaching more than two months of events.

Breeders Crown Starts Soon

The rich schedule for next year is projected to bring US$4 million in purse cash, solidifying Woodbine Entertainment’s position of a leader in Ontario’s horse racing field. Central Ontario Standardbred Association supported the new project that would come to fruition in about 12 months.

The harness racing course is preparing for a heated beginning of October, as it was announced towards the end of August. Woodbine Entertainment and Libfield-Katz Breeding Partnership announced that October 4 is about to see a fundraiser for the Breeders Crown Charity Challenge. The Breeders Crown comes with CA$7.9 million in purses, enough to make it an appealing opportunity for horse people in the area.

This October is about to see the 36th edition of the Breeders Crown, having its official start on October 25. With as many as two days of live racing, this event is eagerly anticipated by the local community. Friday is about to see two-year-olds racing, whereas the Saturday action would bring three-year-old horses, eventually bringing the overall number of live races to 12.
