Woodbine Ent. Adds Swinger/Omni Wagers to its Tracks

This week, Woodbine Entertainment has a special announcement in store for its horseplayers, as the leading operator for horse racing in Ontario will be adding new wagering vertical for its tracks. Swinger, also known as Omni wager, will soon be implemented as an option for its Woodbine Racetrack and Woodbine Mohawk Park properties.

Swinger or also known as Omni around the globe is a leading international wager which requires horseplayers to select two of the top three finishers in a race. Then, one of the participants can win with their preferred choice of horses finishing a race first and second, first and third, or second and third. Wagers start at CA$1 and the takeout is at 18%.

Coming Soon at the Two Ontario Tracks

In its press release, the operator said that the exciting Swinger/Omni wagers will be now added to both Woodbine Racetrack and Woodbine Mohawk Park. The new product will be available on both tracks starting on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Also, the new wagering options will be available on all races at the tracks, online it has been integrated.

However, that is not all the news from the Ontario horse racing organization, as the group also informed horsepeople about changes to the schedule for this weekend’s qualifiers at Woodbine Mohawk Park. As qualifiers for two-year-olds being this weekend, the track will review the number of entries to determine whether two days of qualifiers would be necessary.

According to the operator, if the changes are needed, then there are several possible scenarios. If the number of entries requires only one day, then all qualifiers at the track will be contested on Friday. If the numerous entries call for two days, then regular qualifiers will be held on Friday and two-year-old qualifiers will be held on Saturday.

Lastly, the group reported that each of the qualifying sessions will kick off at 10 a.m. Additionally, the entry box for this weekend’s qualifiers will suspend on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. The operator also reminded horsepeople that submissions for qualifiers must be filed via Standardbred Canada’s online entry system. More information on the qualifiers and new wagers can be found on the operator’s website.

Latest from Woodbine

At the beginning of this month, Woodbine Entertainment also informed that is working on adding horse racing as a betting option on private online sportsbooks in Ontario. This has been in the works for a while now. But recently, Michael Copeland, president of commercial operations for Woodbine, said that the integration could be completed before this year’s fall and that the operator remains cautiously optimistic.

In a separate announcement, the organization revealed that it will be saying farewell to its long-term CEO and President Jim Lawson. He is expected to step down from the position in the fall of 2023, but an exact date is yet to be provided. However, there are expectations around the group that he may not leave completely and assume a different role.
