New York is putting the finishing touches to its sports wagering field that is about to launch operation in the upcoming weeks. All 11 casino venues that have the right to operate sportsbooks are racing to accept the first legal bet on a state level. Oneida Indian Nation recently announced it expects to launch legal sports wagering operation on August 1 once all mandatory steps are taken care of. Tioga Downs might win the race this Friday.
Casino operators are essentially rivals both coexisting within the gaming field and making sure that they are competitive enough for the players ready to try their luck. Sports betting in New York is a budding field that is now on the verge of its official start of operation and all players are putting their efforts into making sure everything goes as planned. Some of them have yet to receive a mandatory approval by the New York Gaming Commission, a detail that could also slow down the process.
Tribal and Commercial Casinos Race for the Win
Oneida Indian Nation oversees three casino venues in New York, all three of which would greenlight wagers on sports events at the beginning of August. These are Turning Stone Casino in Verona, Point Place in Bridgeport, and Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango. The former two are ready to welcome eager sports betting enthusiast as early as the beginning of August, whereas the latter one would need more time.
Al three of the tribal locations would come with sportsbooks managed by Caesars Entertainment for the most advanced experience and premium feel. All action is eyeing the football season that would guarantee betting increase and considerable gaming revenue for the casino locations. In order to make the experience a well-rounded one, the venues would also offer dining and drinks.
It should be taken into account, that for the time being mobile sports betting is not going to be available in New York and all bets would be accepted in person. Proposed bills failed to reach Gov. Andrew Cuomo before the end of this year’s legislative session and this decision was postponed.
Tioga Downs and Rivers Casino Bag Licenses
Players and experts have previously noted that this would cripple the field that has to compete with neighboring states allowing mobile sports wagering. This increases the possibility of players traveling to Pennsylvania or New Jersey in order to enjoy online gaming and more diverse gaming possibilities. Daily fantasy sports leader FanDuel recently announced that Tioga Downs is going to host the soft opening of its sports betting lounge on July 17, whereas the official launch is scheduled to take place on Friday. Rivers Casino and Resort would launch its wagering lounge on Tuesday and both locations are expected to receive their licensing by the New York Gaming Commission.
New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo plans to place the first bet in a New York commercial casino venue on July 19. Tioga Downs would bring as many as eight betting windows, in addition to 14 self0service kiosks powered by IGT. The special state-of-art zone would be able to welcome up to 50 players at a time.
