Resorts World Hudson Valley Gains Approval

New York State’s gambling industry to take another step forward, as the Newburgh’s Town Board has said a unanimous yes to the proposed casino project at the Newburgh Mall. The council approved the State Environmental Quality Review, which will allow for video lottery terminals to be placed in the shopping center, and the zoning order that would allow Resorts World to realize its gaming plans for the area.

The Sullivan County-based company is fully owned by Genting Malaysia, and it has been looking for two years for a suitable site for the casino project. Previously, the corporation was considering the former Nepera Chemical Co. in Harriman as a potential location for the electronic casino property, but it never materialized, and the company moved its focus to the Newburgh Mall on Route 300.

Multi-Million Project

Supervisor of Newburgh Town Gil Piaquadio approved of the gaming hotspot in the mall and admitted that the shopping center has been struggling to attract crowds for a while. The supervisor also clarified that the project will be the first and only one licensed venue in Newburgh and in Orange County.

The mall was built back in 1980, and it is safe to say that the 388,000-square-foot property has been struggling financially for quite some time, as smaller shopping centers have taken over the industry. Many of the mall’s retail shops are closed or nearing their closure such as the Jennifer Furniture in the northern end of the facility.

Resorts World Catskills’ plan is to have a 90,000-square-foot gaming venue at the mall, which will approximately cost the company around US$32 million. The casino property will have over 1,300 electronic slots and the company’s signature brand – Bar 360. Once the corporation receives all of the permissions, it will start moving machines from the Monticello Raceway to the new site.

However, it remains unknown when the company will start to transform the former retail premises into an electronic gaming facility. Genting Malaysia and Monticello Raceway have been negotiating for opening the property since 2018, but once all permissions are in place the casino will be surely created in no time and its potential opening cannot be that far away.

Project Revealed

The company revealed its official plan for the Newburgh gaming venue back in February. It became clear that the proposed casino would bring great economic significance to the region. The construction of the gaming site will bring plenty of temporary jobs. It is also believed that the opening of the project would bring over 225 well-paid jobs for the local population.

Further Expansion

Not long ago Resort World Casino revealed its yet another multi-million project in New York State. It is a US$400-million plan for building a hospitality complex named Hyatt Regency Hotel. The purpose of the property will be to accommodate many traveling casino enthusiasts trying their luck at Resorts World Casino New York City. The hotel will be also quite close to the Aqueduct Racetrack.
