Queens Casino Gives Back to Local Communities

It has been a turbulent 2021, but it did not stop Resorts World New York City from giving back to the local community groups and non-profits in Queens. The gaming property has donated more than US$500,000 to a series of organizations in the borough, in order to demonstrate its support and responsibility it has towards local communities and people.

The unprecedented situation has taken its toll on many people’s lives and communities since its occurrence in March 2020, its effects have even extended into this year. That is why, Resorts World New York City, has decided to continue its donations to the local communities of Queens, and help out in any way it can during these difficult times.

Massive Contribution to Queens

For instance, the Queens gaming amenity made a US$50,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Queens, thus supporting its after-school and universal Pre-K programs and helping out more than 5,000 children in the borough. Staff members from the property have also participated in BGCMQ’s Career Day where they discussed careers and purchased pre-K students’ wish list gifts for a Secret Santa.

Another example of the property donating some big money to local organizations is its US$20,000 one to two of the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning programs: its annual Jamaica Flux public art project and its Black History Month programs. The venue collaborated with York College to launch a course that introduces students to career opportunities in the casino industry.

Also, the Queens gambling hotspot helped patients connect with their close ones after the Jamaica Hospital Medical center stopped its visitation policy. Resort world donated US$15,000 for the purchase of iPads for patients in the hospital who tested positive for the virus. It has also, sent out US$30,000 to the Queens Chamber of Commerce, thus paying the annual chamber membership fees for over 40 small businesses affected by the lockdowns.

One more instance of great assistance from the casino was its donations to the Louis Armstrong House Museum, Swim Strong Foundation, City Meals on Wheels, the 106th Precinct Community Council, and others. These were given through its Resorts World Gives, which is a corporate philanthropic program that invests in the economic and social progress of local communities.

Local Support

Resorts World New York City’s efforts and contributions towards the local economy and communities have not been overlooked. Back in March 2021, the property was backed by a local Queens alliance compiled of groups and non-profits for its pursuit of a fully-fledged casino license. According to the alliance, transforming the property into a full-scale one would provide more jobs and have a positive effect on the economy.

Currently, the state of New York is looking to accelerate the process of awarding the three available downstate casino licenses. In December, the New York State Gaming Commission published the results of its Request for Information from possible suitors. The regulator revealed it has received over 30 responses, including offers from at least eight casino operators. Meaning that Resorts World NYC will face tough competition for one of the spots.
