Canadian Lotteries Now Offer Single-Event Wagering

BCLC, Loto-Quebec, and Atlantic Lottery Corporation have all launched single-event wagering offerings with the enactment of Bill C-218 on August 27, 2021. The quick introduction was powered by Scientific Games’ OpenSports™ platform, making it the first regulated sportsbook solution in the country to offer single-event betting.

Bill C-218 or also known as The Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act became a law on August 27, 2021, and now Canada can finally offer betting on individuals sporting events. Previously, gamblers and sports fans had to used parlay wagering, where they have to guess the outcome of several games for a successful bet. But now the country has advanced its gaming industry to a new level.

Immediate Launch

 

Charlene Nielson, who serves as Director of Product Management at the British Columbia Lottery Corporation stated that the agency is delighted to build on its relationship with Scientific Games. According to her, the addition of single-sports wagering to the corporation’s catalog of sportsbook products is great. Now she is looking forward to more collaboration with the platform provider and evolving their business.

Director, Sports, and Entertainment Betting at Loto-Quebec, Louis Beaudet, also commented on the enactment of the bill. The directors explained that it was of huge importance for the Crown to implement the new offering on day 1 of the legislation. He also added that providing the new product to the province’s players using the provider’s OpenSports platform makes the launch even more special.

Scott Eagles, Manager of Sports Betting at Atlantic Lottery Corporation noted that the Crown agency has looked forward to the enactment of Bill C-218. And now the corporation is excited to offer its customers a safe and regulated environment to place single-event wagers. In his words, the agency and the platform provider have built an immaculate partnership, making the launch even more thrilling.

Marc Crean, Commercial Director, Digital at Scientific Games commented that the opportunity to provide single sports betting from the first day of the enactment speaks volumes about the company’s reaction to regulatory changes. He continued by saying that the provider is now in a great position to enjoy further growth in the country and continue to provide its partners with premium betting solutions.

Acquisition Agreement

At the beginning of this August, the prominent content provider and aggregator, Scientific Games has completed a deal for the acquisition of content developing studio Lightning Box. The company is based in Australia, and some of its biggest hit titles include ChickenFox, Lightning Horseman, Lightning Leopard, ChickenFox5x Skillstar, Astrocat, and Silver Lion. This way the provider is increasing its in-house studio with greater variety.

Expansion of Reach

Another deal of utmost importance of the provider and aggregators was also recently announced. The company, along with Playtech have signed a global supply deal, as both sides will now benefit from their respective area of operations and promote each other. The provider’s OpenGaming platform will be now supplied to more jurisdictions from around the world with richer content.
