ALC Seeks Family-Friendly Offerings near Red Shores Racetrack

Atlantic Lottery Corporation is about to make a strategic move in Charlottetown, as it is considering the purchase of the trade center part of Eastlink Center. The conversation between the Crown corporation and the city council has been in progress for several months now, with the successful purchase eyed by the lottery leader in the province. Expansion might be in the works for the area.

Every gaming corporation is looking for ways in which it could expand its operation and make it more riveting for its players. This includes the purchase of available properties nearby existing locations it oversees. Such is the case with Atlantic Lottery Corporation and the potential purchase it has been working on over the past four months.

Conversation with City Council

The Crown corporation wants to purchase part of Eastink Center located in Charlottetown, as to ensure its future operation would continue to expand and bring new opportunities to the local community. The center is located in the vicinity of the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino overseen by the Atlantic Lottery Corporation. Purchasing part of the building located nearby might mean a family-friendly expansion taking place.

Philip Brown, Mayor of Charlottetown pointed out that ever since September, the conversation of a possible purchase has been in progress. The Crown corporation wants to obtain the trade center part of Eastlink Center but there might be some complications. Prince Edward Island and the City of Charlottetown have an existing agreement for the joint operation of the center. The agreement between the two sides has been widely discussed over the past several months.

The City of Charlottetown owns the rink located in the center, whereas the province oversees the trade center portion of the building. It could be recalled that back in August 2019, the city made it clear that it wants to put an end to this agreement, in order to facilitate the sale. The two parts of Eastlink Center would be considered independent projects.

Expansion Possible

In this sense, individuals currently working at the rink would not be affected in any way by a potential sale. The overall pace of the conversation has been slow. Atlantic Lottery Corporation has not revealed any plans for expansion. However, it should also be taken into account that the province is ready to see new projects in the zone. The local events scene might be boosted down the road.

Atlantic Lottery Corporation could introduce an attractive venue for live performances that would further boost the city coffers. Such a development would also place Charlottetown on the map for bigger musicians, bands, and DJs, something the community has been looking forward to for quite a while. Focusing on family-friendly offerings in the vicinity of the harness racetrack and the gambling venue would balance them well.

Charlottetown Islanders is the hockey team hosting its shows on a regular basis at the trade part of the center. However, their lease is still in progress. Craig Foster, president of operations with the Charlottetown Islanders, recently stated that the team envisions an extension of this lease, yet another factor impacting the conversation between the Crown corporation and the city.
