Coming Soon: Could CA$70-Million Cascades Casino Be Delta’s Golden Ticket?

One of the more controversial casino topics of 2018 is no other than the future Cascades Casino in Delta, British Columbia which was the apple of discord for members of the community for many months. The year 2020 is expected to see launch of operation on site of the new casino location, however, concerns linger, as projections for the future operation of the CA$70-million project are swirling around.

November 2018 was a pivotal point for the local gaming field as the British Columbia Lottery Corporation gave its permission for gaming facility construction in the Ladner area of Delta. The decision came after long months of a limbo, which left much to be desired. Exactly two years before this decision to be issued, on November 9, 2016, the lottery corporation pinpointed the area as a potential one for the project. The complex was projected to bring both gaming and more family-friendly offerings.

Casino Venue Projections

Delta Town and Country Inn had to close for business in order to provide the future gaming location with the needed space for operation. The parcel of land spans across 11 acres in the vicinity of Highway 99 and Highway 17a. This positions it both at a convenient spot for people from neighboring communities and far from residential areas within Delta, taking into account problem gambling concerns.

Construction on site was previously scheduled to commence around the beginning of this year. This is one of the local projects which has the potential to revive Delta’s economy and job market, as it will provide around 700 members of the community with a permanent job. The venue itself will come with 500 slot devices ready for operation, in addition to 24 table games and 6 electronic table games.

This is going to provide players in the vicinity with a new location to try their luck at, possibly a more convenient one. Up until now, the closest gaming venues were Starlight Casino in New Westminster, Elements Casino in Surrey, and, of course, Cascades Casino in Langley. About 4,000 individuals utilize their gaming potential. Of those venues, a rival casino developer and operator Great Canadian Gaming Corporation oversees only Elements Casino.

CA$70-Million Project Could Launch Mid-2020

This comes to show that Gateway Casinos strives to find ways in which it could explore new uncharted lands when it comes to casino operation and it does it successfully thanks to its expansion across British Columbia. Such venues are the Cascades Casinos in Penticton and Kamloops. The project is going to cost some CA$70 million to its developers, expectedly with some generous revenue expectations as well.

According to an earlier statement issued by the casino developer, taking into account the levels of gaming enthusiasm in the area, revenue projections are between CA$1.5 million and CA$3 million. Regardless of this, it could be recalled that Richmond residents strongly opposed the future operation of casino venue in Delta, as it could lead to an increase of crimes and compulsive gambling, as well as costs for Richmond. Future operation will show whether these concerns are, in fact, valid.

Furthermore, Gateway Casinos revealed it will implement the GameSense program in order to guarantee the protection of its players and implement superior responsible gambling policies. This means that yet another concern is now nixed and irrelevant at this point.

In addition to that, market opportunity, business case, health impacts, and municipal approval process were also taken into account over the past few months. Now it is only a matter of time before construction commences on site.
