Yggdrasil Gaming, a Swedish online casino game developer who borrow their name from the mythical Norse tree of life, have seen another instant millionaire created playing one of their games.
SEK 33,748,248 (c. C$5.16m, US$4m, €3.48m) fell into a player’s lap the first time she played Joker Millions. The win happened in late October while the player, identified only as Mia, was playing the game on her mobile device. She was betting just SEK 7.5, or roughly 77 cents per spin.
The game is highly popular at Canadian casinos like LeoVegas and Guts and seems to give up the jackpot fairly often. Just before Christmas last year a player won nearly $5m in the game and in July the online slot gave up nearly $8m.
A small portion of every bet placed on the game contributes to the progressive jackpot, so in effect, players pool their own money in the hopes that one of them will catch the lucky combination of symbols that award the prize, regardless of size. Once won, Yggdrasil seeds the jackpot meter again with €100,000 and it begins to grow with the very next spin. In less than two weeks the jackpot has exploded to over a million dollars (€723,679) with players trying their luck on the game at a frenzied pace.
People seem to like the game for more than a chance to win the big jackpots because the base game can pay out huge wins by freezing joker symbols on the reels and respinning to award multipliers. Once a joker lands it is held in position while the reels behind it spin again. In the case of the most recent lucky player that occurred several times until each reel held joker symbols and she was awarded a mystery win and a jackpot spin. During the jackpot spin, all 15 positions on the 5×3 slot were eventually filled with jokers, awarding the life-changing jackpot.
